We got up early and hit the road at 6am in the morning. Today turned out to be mostly a rather dull driving day, some of which was at higher elevation. As we left Salt Lake City we had to climb a bit. We drove through at least one ski resort and then ended up at what looked like some sort of high desert in southern Wyoming at about 7,000ft.
On our way out of Utah into south western Wyoming
As we hit the high desert we could see occasional wells, which I suspect were either oil or gas wells. In one area they were laying down new pipelines to help collect the output. I can imagine that with today's crude prices this is becoming more and more viable. We stopped along the way and had a late breakfast in a place called Little America, along I-80. Given our earlier experiences with South Of The Border, in South Carolina, and Wall Drug in South Dakota, I had somehow expected a similar spectacle. But this was not so. This was a much cleaner place. Even the souvenir section of the main gas station/shop had quite tastefull things as opposed to the ones you'd find in the other two.
Just before reaching Laramie Wyoming we stopped for fuel and had lunch in the truck rest area. After this we continued down on a smaller highway towards Fort Collins. The original plan was to drive through Cheyenne on the Interstate, but with the good experience we had back in Idaho and western Utah it seemed like we could just as well take a better highway as the Interstate.
We struggled a bit to find the campground in Fort Collins, mostly due to pilot errors. The campground was not all that exciting. They had a pool, which the kids used. But there was no WiFi, which was a bit of a bummer. At this point I already had a bunch of things I wanted to upload. I was also hoping to check my emails. We relaxed and did not do much here. There was no real view and the sites were not very interesting either. We were not allowed to make a fire. Before going to bed I made sure to fill up our water tank.
