Day 39 -- Hanging around Millers Landing, Seward, AK
Saturday 7/29/2006
We slept well with the catalytic heater on. We heard the rain a few times through the night, so we did not quite know what to expect when we woke up. When we got out, the rain had stopped and it was quite comfortable. We decided to have a hot lunch with egg and bacon.

Unexpected bonus: the skies clear up after breakfast .. we're staying here!
Today we just hung around the campground. We were a bit tired from yesterday, when we had gotten up really early and then gone to bed late. The weather was quite nice outside and the kids played by the shore. For a while they tried fishing from the shore, but they did not catch anything. I did not diary and trip planning. Karl played with his cars for a while by the shore.

In the afternoon, one of the fishing charters that run out of Millers Landing came back to shore. Before they started to clean most of the fish, they put it up for display. Karl alerted me soon enough that he was able to take a few pictures.

Isabella and Erik were asking if they could go out on a charter, too. I inquired a bit and it cost $265/person for a day trip. That was a bit more than we were willing to spend for that. As it turns out, the weather was not looking too great either for the next couple of days. We had some great steaks for dinner and just enjoyed the views.

The large cruise ship that come into port yesterday started to move out as we were wrapping up dinner. It was quite a sight as it pulled out.

Karl decides he wants to sleep in a tent. Forecast looks reasonable so that seemed like a good idea.
After dinner we enjoy marshmallows over the fire (in the cold wind)
