Day 32 -- More resting in and mending the Airstream in Fairbanks

Saturday 7/22/2006

I got up early to continue the work on the Airstream. The shower in the bathroom was still not usable; the door needed to be mounted. I could not take a shower and that was something I really wanted to do before I went to go get Lilli. [Isabella: "Why don't you just use the showers at the campground?" I thought they were the best we'd seen so far on this trip. The were spacious, the water was actually warm, and the shower head wasn't mutalated. Dad repiled with the usual "I want to take a shower in my own trailer."]

This is where the tub had come undone

Under the carpet, this is where the tub had come undone

After getting the tub installed with better screws and the door put in place using the hinge fix from Ted Price, I had to rush to the Airport to get Lilli. She was also tired from her trip, having slept at the Seattle Airport and, like me, she had not taken a shower. But we were so happy together! I took her back to the trailer and to the disaster. The outside looked terrible. But now I was able to take a shower, right away. We then took a road trip to get some more parts. We managed to find a place that sold those tiny water drain valves we lost on our trailer; $1.64 is all it cost. We also got some other parts at Home Depot, made a dash to Wal-Mart, and then rushed back home to the campground and continued working. I got the drain valve installed and we are now able to hold water again, which is important for our no-hookup campsite in Denali.

We went out for lunch and that was nice. In the afternoon, we realized that we would not be able to get things cleaned up for tomorrow. So I decided we needed to stay one more day. This was unfortunate, since this meant chipping out one more day from Denali. But what can you do?
