Day 15 - Resting day in Dawson Creek, British Columbia

Wednesday 7/5/2006

Today was a bit of a resting day. We did not want to hurry too much. Erik proposed he could make pan cakes and we all gladly accepted. He had already bought fresh blue berries when we were down in Prince George. Erik sat outside and tended the cooking table while Isabella and I worked inside on dishes and cleaning the trailer.

We took a trip into town to buy some supplies. We hopped between stores to see if we could not find plastic covers for the truck's headlights. Nobody had them in stock. We also looked for a replacement gas valve for the camping BBQ. They have some fairly large gas stores here in town. We found a place called Joy Propane and they even had propane filling for cars. Erik and I walked in there and asked for valves. They had plenty of supplies but not a regulator that would fit the grill perfectly. They offered to let me use one of their hack-saws to customize one of their valves for our BBQ. We actually had the BBQ with us in the truck so it was easy to try the modified value. I managed to get it to fit perfectly so he decided to buy one extra valve at the same time, just so we have a spare. We visited a few other places in town such as the local Wal-Mart, which was rather small, and a Liquor store, since we cannot buy wine at the grocery store. The wine was very expensive, about 2X compared to home in New Hampshire. And it was also hard to find just a regular table wine. The rain continued for most of the day. When we got back, we sat in the trailer and took care of different things, read some emails, etc.

The boys continued to play with the balloon rockets outside. The boys both hooked up to the Internet. For dinner we ate chicken pie and salad. I went over to a neighbor's trailer and hung around there for a while. Erik made chocolate chip cookies. Karl experimented with his self invented "daemon pictures", by holding his finger over the flash. Here is one of his examples:
